On August 10, 2026, CODA opened the doors of our new Sobering Center at the Beaverton Recovery Center (BRC).

The Sobering Center is designed to offer a voluntary, safe, and welcoming environment for individuals who are intoxicated, who could benefit from a safe place to rest and recover. CODA’s Sobering program responds to local needs—prioritizing safety, care, and support for vulnerable populations.

The Sobering Center operates in partnership with local law enforcement, emergency services, and health providers; these agencies become approved referral partners, then may refer individuals to the program. Once admitted to the 16-person capacity center, participants may remain there for less than 24 hours.

Sobering programs:

  • Avoid unnecessary interaction with more costly systems, preventing needless health and public safety expenses;
  • Increase the ability of law enforcement and medical systems to handle more appropriate issues; and
  • Reduce jail and emergency department crowding.
